SUMMARY
When an insurance company smells smoke in a double-indemnity fire claim, who else would they call on but that suave sleuth-about-town, Milo March! This time the scene is California, and the blaze neatly consumes the Cantwell house and its two occupants - all heavily insured.
The police have two corpses on their hands but when Mrs. Cantwell turns up alive and healthy, everyone begins to wonder just who those corpses were. Like the Los Angeles Police Department Milo suspects arson. Aware that Harry Manfred, a known arsonist, is in town, Milo sets out to tie him to the case. The search for clues leads to a wino who quotes Omar, and a charming Nisei girl who runs a cultural foundation, mentioned in the Cantwell will.
