Published by Sisley's, Makers of Beautiful Books, London, undated, [1908]. Small thin full leather binding with gilt titles and decoration, the book measures 135 x 80mm, decorative endpapers, with 76 pages, embelished with 4 colour plates by Dion Clayton Calthrop. With bookplate belonging to silk industialist Thomas Wardle.

CONDITION

A very good copy throughout. The leather binding is very good. Endpapers clean and pages in lovely condition throughout and free from foxing or stains. No writing or names to the book. Overall very good.

BOOKPLATE OF SIR THOMAS WARDLE (British businessman / Silk Industry)
Sir Thomas Wardle (26 January 1831 – 3 January 1909) was a British businessman, known for his innovations in silk dyeing and printing on silk. He was married to celebrated fabric artist Elizabeth Wardle. He collaborated with the designer William Morris, who visited his dyeworks in Leek, Staffordshire to learn how to use natural dyes. He was knighted by Queen Victoria for his services to the silk industry.
