Salmon Rivers of Scotland

By Augustus Grimble

Published by 1902 First Edition — Vellum‑Backed Angling Classic

Published by Kegan Paul, Trench, Trübner & Co., 1902

4to size, quarter vellum, hardback. Gilt titles.

A desirable first edition (1902) of Augustus Grimble’s authoritative survey of Scotland’s salmon rivers—one of the foundational works of British angling literature. Grimble’s multi‑volume series on the salmon and sea‑trout rivers of Scotland remains prized for its blend of practical river knowledge, historical notes, estate and fishery descriptions, and early conservation‑minded commentary. This volume covers the principal Scottish rivers, detailing their geography, ownership, fishing conditions, and the traditions surrounding each water.

The book is notable for its richly descriptive text, early 20th‑century sporting perspective, and its value as a historical record of Scottish river management and angling culture. First editions are increasingly scarce, especially in collectible condition.

CONDITION
Binding is in good condition, firm and square. Some grubbiness to the vellum, some shelf wear. Inscriptions in pencil on front pastedown and front free end paper as well as some age toning. Some light foxing throughout, mostly contained to the prelim pages, elsewhere clean and bright.  (See images for worst examples) All contents present throughout. Overall a good copy of this scarce title.
