General Hoffmann (Maximillian Hoffmann), who was a German General in WW1 and is considered to be one of the greatest strategists in German military history. An absolutely marvelous military connection with this remarkable book.

CONDITION
A good first edition. The dust jacket is good with a little loss at the head and tail of the spine but the original price remains intact on the front inner flap. Boards and spine are good. Endpapers good. No writing or names other than that of the author's inscription. Pages clean throughout. Overall a very good first edition. All other signed copies we could find for sale aren't flat signed but are rather clipping from letters with Byrd's signature. A rare item.
.
Admiral Richard Evelyn Byrd is of course the world renown American Naval Officer and explorer, having explored both poles and written many books about both exploration and about his experiences. He was the recipient of the Medal of Honor, which is the highest honor for valor given in the United States.

Additionally, Byrd is credited with organizing the Navy’s Operation HIGHJUMP, said to be an operation designed to assess the suitability of Antarctica as a location for bases and military presence. Additional stories have been floated about a hollow Earth, meetings with extra terrestrials, a galactic battle, battles with other factions etc. Perhaps some of this is true as Antarctica is so strictly guarded we can’t get there to confirm or deny… you decide!
