It is the late seventeenth century and thirteen-year-old Robyn is biding time on his farm in the Lincolnshire fens. One day returning through the mist with a pack of smuggled spirits he is waylaid by bandits, a gang ruled by the dreadful Queen of Holderness (Peg Fyfe of Yorkshire folklore). Robyn escapes with his life but he is left with a curse - one which will be visited on him in seven years time...

CONDITION

A very good first edition. The dust jacket is price-clipped but otherwise in good condition. The jacket is now protected in a removable mylar sleeve. Boards and spine very good. Endpapers good and with no writing or names to the book. Pages in good clean condition throughout. Overall very good.

George Oliver,
1872-1961, writing as Oliver Onions is best known for his supernatural fiction and is regarded by many as one of the twentieth century masters of the genre. His ghost stories are notable for their depth of psychological insight, elegant writing and sophisticated plots.
