Overall acceptable condition - see photos. Wear/fading/marls to hardcover. Foxing and water staining to front and back end papers, plus a few pages throughout. No names or writing. Images crisp & clear.

Foreword:

I wish to thank the many readers who responded to the request in my previous book, and who wrote to tell me of such subjects as I had omitted. The result is this second volume, of the same size as the first, which however has by no means included all the good suggestions made to me. It seems even to be possible that, if still more subjects should be kindly sent me by my readers, a third volume may be required to complete the work.

I hope my vanity may be pardoned for quoting what was said by a child to whom my book had been given as a Christmas present. After looking through it, she exclaimed, "Oh, Mummie, I will be glad when Summer comes again !"

That expression " reconciled me to myself" and to the many short-comings of my little book. I wish particularly to thank Miss Margaret L. Greg for the delicious passage from a Norman French Chronicle (see overleaf) showing that the game of plantain champions was played by children in England 8oo years ago.
