THE HOLY BIBLE (Bound by Cedric Chivers)
Published by The Ballantyne Press, Edinburgh, undated, circa 1910. Complete in Three Volumes. Bound by Cedric Chivers of Bath (His stamp is found to the inside rear board of each volume. Embossed dark red morocco binding with gilt lines and top edge. Printed on Indian paper. [xiv], 1472; [iv], 1229; [iv], 1374 pp. Profusely illustrated with wonderful colour prints.
CONDITION
A good complete set. The bindings are good with some light rubbing to the extremities but overall good. Endpapers good. All contents present and pages clean throughout. Overall good.
Cedric Chivers a bookbinder in from Bath worked to raise the standard of library binding and invented the magnificent ‘vellucent’ binding. Chivers is also credited with introducing the card index into public libraries and to British business life. He was Mayor of Bath.
