The Way the World is Going; Guesses & Forecasts of the Next Few Years
By H G Wells
Published by Ernest Benn, London, 1928. First Edition. Hardback book in original dust jacket. 8vo. 301 pages.
ABOUT THIS BOOK
A scarce first edition of The Way the World is Going (1928), which brings together for the first time in book form 26 of Wells’ articles published in the Sunday Express in Britain and the New York Times in the USA. Equally pessimistic and prophetic, the articles collected here evince Wells’ growing disillusionment with the global rise of fascism and nationalism after the First World War. Among others, the collection includes Wells’ review of Fritz Lang’s iconic sci-fi film Metropolis (1927), his fierce indictments of the “New American People,” and his reflections on Russian behaviorist Ivan Pavlov.
CONDITION
A fine copy. The original dust jacket has no clipping or tears and is free from any edge-chipping, no sun-fading to the spine either! A few spots to the rear panel but overall the jacket is in excellent condition. Cloth binding very good. All contents present and pages very clean throughout. No previous owner's name or writing to the book. Overall a very fine copy indeed.
