THE RELATION OF A WONDERFULL VOIAGE

By William Cornelison Schouten,

London: Imprinted by T. D. for Nathanaell Newbery. 1619.

-------------------------------------------------------------

A remarkably faithful facsimile of the rare 1628 edition, printed on identical quality paper and bound in full vellum with gilt stamping and tie cords, then laid in a green cloth clamshell box with title labels and heavy felt interior lining. This facsimile was created by William Targ at the World Publishing Company in 1966, who also produced the Kelmscott Chaucer facsimile. It includes a booklet with a historical introduction by A.L. Rowse and biographical notes by Robert O. Dougan. A beautiful example of the printer and binder crafts.

The Drake work is illustrated with a woodcut frontispiece of Drake and an elaborately decorated double-page map of the world. The title page of the Schouten work has a woodcut vignette map of Tierra del Fuego.
