This book provides a comprehensive survey of the changing structure of the Scottish economy since the end of the Second World War, with particular emphasis on the three decades after 1950. As well as describing the decline of the older industries and the emergence of new ones, the influence of the Development Boards and EFTA and the EEC are analysed. Housing, public health, the labour market and trade unions are discussed and the interrelationships between the different sectors are studied to provide a full picture of how and why the Scottish economy has developed in the way that it has.
