Preface:

The author has made a reverent endeavour to preserve these items of parish history which he has collected from Parochial and Presbyterial records, from tradition, and from the lips of his older parishioners.

During the last twenty-five years of a very strenuous ministry, and the urgent local call for social and educational services in the County and Parish, much of what has been obtained was accomplished in "spared moments.' The best has been done for the " good old times." That labour of love" will be amply rewarded by the preservation of these numberless facts in this volume of human interests.

Gratitude is due to many friends. Mr. R. Milliken of Kirkcaldy is cordially thanked for his patience and kindness in
preparing the illustrations.
