Preface to the Second Edition.
Of the original work, the first part has been almost wholly recast, and a considerable quanity of new matter incorporated. Amongst the additions are partiucularly relating to Roman Hastings, the Bayeux Tapestry, the College of St. Mary, the Priory of the Holy Trinity, the Magdalene Hospital, the Custumal and the Precedence of our Town. The Second Part has been but slightly modified. It has not been though necessary to encumber the book with references, but it would be indeed ungrateful not to acknowledge my continual indebtedness to the stores of antiquarian lore treasured up in the Sussex Archaeological Collection. The maps and Index will, it is hoped, enhance the usefulness of the present edition.

CONDITION
A good copy. The cloth binding is good with some light rubbing. Name to front endpaper and bookplate to front inside board. All contents present and pages good throughout. All fold-outs present and in good order. Overall a good copy.
