Published by Blackie and Son, London, undated, circa 1905. First Edition. Hardback with pictorial cloth binding, gilt to all page edges. The book measures 27 x 20cm. Contains some full-page illustrations (27 coloured) which are included in the page count.
CONDITION
A good copy. The binding is good with just a couple of light marks to the boards (see pictures). All contents present and pages good throughout with just a tad spotting to the title page and following two pages but all others nice and clean. All colour plates present and in lovely clean condition. Presentation slip pasted to inside front board and dated for the year 1915. Overall a good copy of this collectable title.
Alice (Marsh) Talwin Morris (1861–1955) married the designer Talwin Morris in 1892. He was appointed 'Art Manager' with the Glasgow publisher Blackie & Sons Ltd the following year, and the couple moved from London to live at Dunglass, Bowling. In Glasgow they became friends of Margaret Macdonald and Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Alice Talwin Morris wrote children's books which were published by Blackie, and following her husband's death she became a reader for the firm. She presented work by her husband to the Glasgow Art Gallery and Museum in 1946.
