A KINETIC UNIVERSE
By John Jones (natural philosopher)
Privately Printed, Dundee, 1903. 4to. Cloth, hardback, paper title label to spine. 169 pages. There is a colour portrait of the author and several other illustrations throughout the book.
The book strangely includes two portraits of Robert Burns by Sir Henry Raeburn and Alexander Reid of which the author of this treatise is owner of both and are here published for the first time (1903).
A scarce, charming and slightly strange book. Author proudly included a photographic plate of his family titled, "Silver Wedding of John Jones and Family, July 18th, 1901" with the caption "All life abstainers from those brain, nerve, and vital force destroyers - intoxicating drink and tobacco. God grant that these latter may soon be banished from the Church and Christendom". Also includes a chatty autobiography section, which is essentially the author's memoirs.
CONDITION
The cloth binding is good but with signs of age. THe paper title label is a bit worn and scuffed but the title can still be made out. All pages and plates present. Pages good throughout with the odd bit of light spotting here and there. One page has a closed tear approx 3 inches long. Overall good.
