Vol. 1 Phonology - Accidence (Volume 2 was never completed by Dieth)

By Eugen Dieth

Published by W. Heffer & Sons, Cambridge, 1932. FIrst Edition. 8vo, paperback wrap binding, 213 pages.

CONDITION

A very good copy. The paperback binding is in good condition and the inner flap at the front still retains the original price of 12/6 Net.  A tad of light potting to the title page and to the first few pages but text clean throughout. No names or writing to the book. Overall a very good copy.

Eugen Dieth was a linguist, dialectician, lecturer and later a professor of English Language at the University of Zurich. He was also one of the editors of the Idiotikon, the standard dictionary of Swiss German.

In 1932, Eugen Dieth published the first volume of A Grammar of the Buchan Dialect, which focused on phonology and accidence. The book was published by the University Press in Cambridge. The second volume, which was to focus on syntax, was never published as Dieth died before it could be completed, but the uncompleted second volume was reconstructed and edited by J. Derrick McClure.
