The Secret Doctrine: The Synthesis of Science, Religion, and Philosophy

By H. P. Blavatsky

London and Benares; The Theosophical Publishing Society, 1905. Third and Revised Edition. Three volumes plus index volume.

A specially-bound copy presented to Pestonji Dossabhai Esq from the members of the Hyderabad Theosophical Society in India.

Pestonji Dosabhai was a notable figure, particularly within the Parsi community. He is recognized for his contributions to Indian business and social life, and for his contributions to the Parsi reform movement. He was also a prominent member of the Theosophical Society and was known for his involvement in the society's activities among Parsis. Specifically, he was one of the first Parsi members to be admitted to the Theosophical Society. Dosabhai was likely an associate of Annie Besant, who was a prominent leader in the Theosophical Society in India (the Theosophical Society Auditorium in Hyderabad, is called Besant Hall in her honour).

The Theosophical Society, founded in 1875 by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, aimed to promote brotherhood and study of comparative religion, philosophy, and science, including esoteric interpretations of Eastern religions like Hinduism and Buddhism. Pestonji Dosabhai's participation reflects the Society's interest in engaging with various religious and cultural groups, including the Parsi community in India.
