Dessins Sans Paroles Des Chats
By Théophile Alexandre Steinlen
Folio; 44.7 x 31 x 1.5 cm. Hardback, grey cloth spine in original artist's colour lithograph boards. 28 leaves; 26 plates of multiple images of cats by Steinlen, numbered pages printed one side only.
CONDITION
A good copy. The boards and spine are good but with some signes of age with wear to the corners and rubbing to the boards. Inner hinges have been reinforced with archival tape. All contents present and pages in good condition throughout and free from tears or nasty marks, but a previous owner has coloured in the boy and girl on page 2 (see last image), but no other colouring-in to the book. Overall a good complete copy. Scarce.
Théophile Alexandre Steinlen (November 10, 1859 – December 13, 1923), was a Swiss-born French Art Nouveau painter and printmaker. He was politically engaged and collaborated with the anarchist and socialist press. Steinlen included cats in many of his illustrations, and even published a book of his designs, Dessins Sans Paroles Des Chats.
