This is a beautifully preserved 10 volume set of early J. M. Dent editions of Jane Austen’s novels. These volumes are one of the most attractive and collectible Victorian Austen editions. All volumes in this group are First Edition Thus from 1892, with the exception of Emma, which is the Third Edition Thus from 1893.

Dent's Austen series represents a landmark moment in Austen’s publishing history. It was the first truly decorative, uniform library edition of her works produced for a Victorian readership, and it played a major role in establishing Austen’s modern reputation. Early Dent printings are now sought after by collectors and readers who appreciate the combination of literary significance, aesthetic appeal, and historical interest.

These volumes form part of the celebrated 10‑volume Dent set, issued in small numbers in the early 1890s and now increasingly scarce in any condition.

The books are in very good condition for their age, and are complete. Bindings are firm and square, gilt titles remain bright. Pages are good throughout, with very occasional light spotting. One small tear to the spine of Persuasion (see images) Occasional marks to cloth but overall very good copies.
