INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR to his faithful friend Mr William Oliphant Morrison
CONDITION
The book is in good condition. The cloth binding is good with light signs of age. All contents present and pages good throughout. No writing to the book other than that of the author's inscription. Overall good.
The author Thomas Murray was involved in the famous Edinburgh printing and bookbinding company Morrison and Gibb.
William Oliphant Morrison was a relative of the Edinburgh bookseller, William Oliphant, who founded Morrison & Gibb under the name of William Oliphant & Co., which was changed in the following year to William Oliphant, Junior & Co.
In 1841 Mr. Gibb took over the business along with Dr. Thomas Murray, and the company name changed to Murray & Gibb. Another name change took place in 1879 when Mr William Oliphant Gibb entered the business, and the firm was renamed Morrison & Gibb.
William Oliphant Morrison ended up becoming a senior partner in 1864 after Thomas Murray died.
