Published by John W Parker, London. Two Volumes. Volume I dated 1840 and volume II dated 1835. Hardback books, small 8vo, cloth, pp vii, i, 264, vi, iii, 279, [8 pages of adverts]. Volume II is a little larger in size than volume I. Profusely illustrated with engraved full plates and vignettes throughout, each volume with a full frontispiece illustration.

Contains chapters on the anatomy of birds, their flight, structure and classifications, before specialist chapters on the eagles and hawks, vultures, owls, ravens, penguins, water-birds, pinnipedes, ducks, palmipedes and longipennes. Written by Rev. Edward Stanley of Alderley (1779-1849), a rector and expert ornithologist with an interest in education and natural sciences.

CONDITION
A good set. Cloth bindings are good but volume II has a large dark stain to the upper board. Endpapers good. All contents present to both volumes and pages in good clean condition throughout. Overall good.
