POEMS, CHIEFLY IN THE SCOTTISH DIALECT

By Robert Burns

London: A. Strahan, T. Cadell, W. Creech, 1787. First London Edition, or Third Edition overall. Rebound in half leather. Octavo, pp. xlviii, [13]-372 as called for. With engraved portrait frontispiece.

This first London printing is one of the highlites of Scottish literature, preceded only by the Kilmarnock first edition, the Edinburgh second edition and an Irish piracy edition.

CONDITION
A good copy. The leather binding is in good condition. Endpapers good. Reapair to the top of title page where once the top edge was clipped (perhaps to hide the previous owner's name). This clipped piece has been replaced with a close-matching paper which may be hard to see in the images provided. All contents present and pages in good condition with a little damp-staining to the bottom margin of pages 300-318. Small closed tear to the bottom margin of page 273. With perhaps the odd random spot mark to other margins. Overall a good copy of the third edition.

(Desk, Lower Shelf, Left of Middle)
