Narcisse Dans L'Isle De Venus By Jacques Charles Louis Malfilatre

Published by Chez Lejay Libraire in Paris in 1769. Bound in beautiful sapphire morocco leather with extensive gilt work. A lovely example of French binding. Gilt to all edges, marble endpapers, pp x, 112. with an engraved title page plus 4 engraved plates, all with tissue-guards.

Jacques Malfilatre was a poet operating in France during the mid eighteenth century and was widely regarded as an up and coming young talent at the time. However he fell into debt and was forced to flee Paris and his creditors. He wrote Narcisse while living in hiding under an assumed name and died penniless before its publication. CONDITION A very fine copy. The leather binding is in very good condition with just fractional wear to the corners of the boards and a light scuff to the top of the spine. Binding tight and square and with all contents present. Endpapers very good. Text clean throughout and all 4 engraved plates are very good. Overall a lovely copy in fine condition.
