CONDITION
A good first edition. The cloth binding is good with signs of age and a mark to the spine as can be seen in the images provided. Endpapers good. All contents present and pages good throughout. No foxings, stains etc. All plates in good order. Overall a good first edition
Robert Gray (15 August 1825 – 18 February 1887), was a Scottish banker and famed amateur ornithologist. He became the inspector of the bank's branches and during his frequent inspections he studied the local birds. The note-books and their illustrations by his skilful pencil, formed the basis of his 'Birds of the West of Scotland,' published in 1871. In 1851 Gray was one of the founders of the Natural History Society of Glasgow.
