With an Historical and Geographical Account of the Holy Land
By the Rev John Brown (Minister of the Gospel at Haddington)
The two volumes of the Self-Interpreting Bible were published by Blackie & Son, Glasgow, London, 1857. And the Dictionary and Gazetteer of the Bible was published slightly earlier by Mackenzie. White & Co,1846.
The books measure 32cm x 25cm. Full leather bindings with blind stamped boards..An engraved title page to the first volume of the Self Interpreting Bible and a printed title page to the second volume. 1348 pages to the Bible and the pagination runs through both volumes which is then followed by a 56 page index, plus a 72 page section on the Psalms of David. There are several engravings throughout both volumes.
The Dictionary and Gazetteer measures 31 x 24cm so is just sightly smaller than the two Bible volumes. pp xvi, 561. With an engraved title page and frontis, plus a printed title page. With 10 engraved plates.
CONDITION
Overall all three volumes are in very good condition for their age. All three leather bindings are good with a little rubbing at the head of the spines of the 2-volume Bible, the dictionary is good at the caps. All hinges secure with no cracking. All contents present to all three volumes. Pages to all volumes good with occasional thumb mark but free from foxing. The plates to all three volumes are good with perhaps the odd light stain and light grubbiness to some. The Dictionary volume has a little staining at the foot of the title page and frontis just at the gutter but this doesn't affect other pages. Overall a good solid set of books in good complete condition.
