In two volumes. Contemporary full vellum bindings with calligraphic titles to spines. xiv,1517, [index] + 1438, [index]. Both volumes with bookplates belonging to Rev. Dr Forsyth. Bookseller ticket to inside board of volume I.

EARLY HANDWRITTEN NOTES AND NUMEROUS ANNOTATIONS
With early 17th century scholarly manuscript notes to the front endpaper of volume I, almost certainly written by someone with a serious classical/theological education. It is predominantly Latin, with a substantial passage in Hebrew, and it contains numerous references to classical and Biblical authorities. The writer appears rather sophisticated: assembling cross-references or commonplace notes from numerous authorities, rather than simply commenting on the text immediately alongside him. The writer has collected memorable observations and references under subjects connected with Aristotle: philosophy, prophecy, chronology, religion, human knowledge, wisdom and learning. There are also numerous manuscript annotations to the margins throughout both volumes as well as some neat underlining. There are also hand-made small vellum tabs inserted as page markers.

CONDITION
Very good. Both bindings are good with a small piece of vellum missing from the top of volume I. Endpapers good. All contents present to both volumes. Volume II has had repairs to a few pages where the scholar has replaced some missing text with hand-written text, so effectively text all there. Pages good throughout. Overall a very good copy.

(Platform)

https://thegentlymadbookshop.co.uk/products/1606-aristotelis-scholarly-manuscript-annotations-2-vols-vellum-aristotle
